HOW TO BUY A BATTERY

Check the Following when you buy a battery.

Check Battery

Check if your existing battery has really failed. Sometimes, your vehicle’s electrical system could have a problem. Hence find out the cause of the problem (call your mechanic or contact us to check the cause of the problem.)

BATTERY DETAILS

Refer to the battery group size recommended by your manufacturer in the vehicle manual. Battery group size indicates the battery size that will best fit the physical dimensions of your vehicle. Many vehicles can accommodate more than one group size.

CHECK VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Before installing the new battery, check the electrical system of your vehicle. Check the cranking voltage of the battery. It should be more than 9.8 volts across the battery terminals. Test the alternator charging voltage. It should be between 13.8V – 14.5V across the battery terminals.

Check For Freshness

To ensure you get the freshest battery, check the date code or ask your PowerZone retailer. Batteries sitting on shelves for a long time may lose some charge, affecting initial performance. However, long-term performance typically won’t be affected, as in-vehicle or external charging can restore it. When you buy from PowerZone, you can trust the product’s quality will meet your needs.

WARRANTY

Is the warranty valid across India, allowing you to access service anywhere you are? How long is the free replacement period? Checking all these fine prints will help you avoid any surprises while asking for a free replacement. Consider value as well as price. You might want to get professional advice, for which you can walk into your nearest PowerZone store. The PowerZone team would be glad to assist you with…

BATTERY SAFETY
GUIDELINES

Please refer to your vehicle and battery owners’ manual to safely handle your lead-acid battery. Lead acid batteries generate Hydrogen and Oxygen gases that can be explosive. Also exposure to leakage of Sulfuric acid which can cause burn.

HERE ARE SOME PRECAUTIONS

Wear safety glasses or goggles and a face shield

Make sure the work area is well-ventilated

Keep the battery out of children’s reach

Keep vent caps tight

In the event of an accident, flush with water and call a physician immediately

Never lean on the battery while charging it

Keep all ignition sources like cigarettes, flames, and sparks that could cause the battery to explode away from it

Do not charge, use booster cables or adjust post connections without proper instructions and training

Avoid metallic contact across the terminals as this can result in short circuit and sparking

Tips & TERMINOLOGIES

Here's all you need to know about an PowerZone Battery

WHAT'S WHAT IN A BATTERY

ACTIVE MATERIAL

Chemically active compounds in a cell or battery that convert from one composition to another while producing current (electrical energy) or accepting current from an external circuit.

Battery Polarity

A battery has two poles or posts. The positive battery post is usually marked POS, P, or + and is larger than the negative post which is usually marked NEG, N, or -. The polarity of the charger and the battery must always match to avoid damage to the battery and charger.

CELL

The basic electrochemical current-producing unit in a battery consisting of a set of positive plates, negative plates, electrolyte, separators and casing. There are six cells in a 12-volt lead-acid battery.

GROUND

The reference potential of a circuit. In automotive use, the result of attaching one battery cable to the body or frame which is used as a path for completing a circuit in lieu of a direct wire from a component. Today, over 99% of autos use the negative terminal of the battery as the ground

Container

The polypropylene or hard rubber case which holds the plates, straps and electrolyte.

Cover

The lid for the case/container.

Electrolyte

A solution of sulfuric acid and water which conducts current through the movement of ions (charged particles in the electrolyte solution) between positive and negative plates. It supplies sulfate ions for reaction with the active material of both positive and negative plates.
